iPhone 18 Pro Specs & Features: Everything Apple Changed in 2026

Looking for the full iPhone 18 Pro specs? You're in the right place. Apple's 2026 Pro phones went on sale September 18, and while the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max look almost identical to last year's models from the outside, the spec sheet tells a different story: a 2nm A20 Pro chip, a variable-aperture main camera, Apple's own C2 modem and the longest battery life of any iPhone. Below is every iPhone 18 feature that matters, in plain English, plus what it means for how you use (and protect) the phone.

The Headline iPhone 18 Pro Features

1. A variable-aperture main camera

This is the iPhone 18 feature you'll actually see in your photos. Every previous iPhone used a fixed aperture, so the lens let in the same amount of light no matter what you shot, and background blur was mostly added by software. The 18 Pro's 48MP main camera uses six laser-cut blades to physically change the aperture between f/1.48 and f/4.

  • Wide open (f/1.48): more light than last year's f/1.78 lens, which means cleaner, less noisy night shots and faster shutter speeds indoors.
  • Stopped down (toward f/4): real optical depth of field, so landscapes are sharper edge to edge and group shots keep everyone in focus.

Apple also added manual Pro controls for aperture, shutter speed and white balance, plus an opt-in Apple Reference Image mode that saves an unaltered original next to the processed photo. If you're a casual shooter, the camera will simply pick the right aperture for you.

2. An all-48MP camera system

All three rear cameras are 48MP. The Ultra Wide is a 13mm f/2.2 lens with a 120-degree field of view, great for macro and tight interiors. The 4x Telephoto (100mm, f/2.8) uses Apple's tetraprism design with 3D sensor-shift stabilization, and Apple says a 12MP crop from it delivers an 8x optical-quality option at 200mm. Up front, the 18MP Center Stage camera automatically widens the frame when you rotate into a group selfie.

The flip side: the full-width camera plateau on the back sticks out further than the rest of the phone, and it's the first thing that touches a table, or the ground. A case with a raised lip around the camera, plus a camera lens protector, is the simplest way to keep those lenses scratch-free.

3. The A20 Pro, Apple's first 2nm chip

The A20 Pro moves to a 2-nanometer process. Apple claims a GPU up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro, double the AI compute and 50% more memory bandwidth. Scrolling and opening apps won't feel dramatically different, because the 17 Pro was already fast. Where the A20 Pro earns its keep is sustained work: console-style games, long 4K video exports, and the heavier on-device Siri and Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27.

A redesigned vapor chamber with three times the surface area helps here. It spreads heat across more of the phone, so the 18 Pro holds peak performance longer before it warms up and throttles.

4. Best-ever iPhone battery life

Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro at up to 36 hours of video playback and the 18 Pro Max at up to 45 hours, the most of any iPhone. Fast charging improved too: the Pro hits about 50% in roughly 15 minutes on a fast charger, and Apple says five minutes on the charger gives the Pro Max around seven hours of playback. Not sure what to plug in? Our guide to what charger the iPhone 18 uses covers USB-C wattage, MagSafe and Qi2.

5. Apple's own C2 modem and N1 wireless chip

The C2 is Apple's in-house cellular modem, and it's the first Apple modem with mmWave 5G. Apple says it delivers faster uploads and uses 15% less energy, which is part of where the extra battery life comes from. US models are eSIM-only. The N1 chip handles Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread for smart-home devices.

6. A smaller Dynamic Island

The Dynamic Island shrinks and can now show up to three Live Activities at once instead of two. Nice to have, especially when you're tracking a ride, a delivery and a timer at the same time, but nobody should upgrade for it alone.

Display Specs

Screen sizes are unchanged at 6.3 inches (Pro) and 6.9 inches (Pro Max). Both are ProMotion OLED panels with adaptive refresh up to 120Hz and Always-On display support. The 6.3-inch Pro runs at 2622 x 1206 pixels (460 ppi). Apple lists 1,000 nits typical brightness, 1,600 nits peak for HDR content and 3,000 nits peak outdoors, dropping as low as 1 nit in the dark. The front is covered in Ceramic Shield glass.

Ceramic Shield is tough, but it isn't drop-proof, and screen repairs on a $1,199 phone aren't cheap. Dropguys' iPhone 18 screen protector adds a sacrificial tempered glass layer, and our best iPhone 18 screen protectors roundup compares it with the alternatives.

Design, Size and Weight

The body is the same as the iPhone 17 Pro's: aluminum frame, full-width camera plateau, Camera Control, Action button and USB-C. The pre-launch rumor that the 18 Pro would be thicker was wrong. Both models are 8.75 mm thick, and the footprints match last year exactly. That's why iPhone 17 Pro cases fit the iPhone 18 Pro, with a few caveats.

What did change is weight. At 7.44 oz the 18 Pro is a quarter-ounce heavier than the 17 Pro, and at 8.78 oz the 18 Pro Max is the heaviest iPhone Apple has ever shipped. A heavier phone hits the ground with more energy, which makes drop protection more important on this generation, not less. Exact measurements for every model are in our iPhone 18 size guide.

Colors and Storage

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max come in four finishes: black, silver, glacier and burgundy. If you've seen people searching for a "red" or "cherry red" iPhone 18, burgundy is the one they mean. See photos of each in our iPhone 18 Pro colors guide.

Storage starts at 256GB and goes up to 2TB on both models.

Storage iPhone 18 Pro iPhone 18 Pro Max
256GB $1,199 $1,299
512GB $1,399 $1,499
1TB $1,799 $1,899
2TB $2,399 $2,499

What Didn't Change

  • Screen sizes: still 6.3 and 6.9 inches.
  • Dimensions: identical to the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max.
  • Materials: aluminum frame, Ceramic Shield front.
  • Controls: Camera Control and the Action button carry over in the same positions.
  • MagSafe: still built in, so MagSafe chargers, mounts and wallets work as before.

What About the Standard iPhone 18 and iPhone Duo?

The specs above are for the two Pro models only. A standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air are reported for spring 2027, but Apple hasn't confirmed them or their specs. Apple's first foldable launched this fall under the name iPhone Duo: $1,999 and up, with a 5.4-inch cover screen and 7.6-inch inner screen, in Star White and Night Sky. It ships October 23. If that's your phone, see our guide to iPhone Duo cases.

How to Protect the iPhone 18 Pro

All those specs add up to the most expensive Pro iPhone yet, with a heavier body and a camera plateau that leads with its lenses. Here's how the main case options compare.

  1. Dropguys Ultimate (our pick): 5 meters of stone-tested drop protection, raised edges around the screen and camera, and MagSafe compatibility, without the brick-like bulk. It's the only case here backed by a 100% money-back guarantee: if your iPhone breaks while it's in a Dropguys case, you get your money back. Prefer to show off the burgundy or glacier finish? The Ultra Slim Clear (MagSafe) carries the same guarantee.
  2. OtterBox (~$60): genuinely tough, but bulky, and no guarantee if your phone breaks anyway.
  3. Casetify (~$65): great designs, but expensive for the protection, and no guarantee.
  4. Apple MagSafe case (~$49): official fit and feel, but pricey for a thin case with limited drop protection, and no guarantee.
  5. Spigen (~$20): a decent budget option, but no guarantee.

Pair your case with a MagSafe Wallet if you want to leave your wallet at home. Browse every model in our iPhone 18 cases collection, or see our full best iPhone 18 Pro cases and best iPhone 18 Pro Max cases rankings.
